The Taiwanese industry in the desktop PC is expected to reach a volume of 10.03 million shipping units in the first quarter of 2009, which represents a sequential decline of 6.9% and one-year drop of 8.4% yoy. In the fourth quarter of 2008, industry in Taiwan reached a volume of shipments of 10.77 million units, decreased of 10.5% sequentially and 12.5% year over year.
Looking worldwide desktop PC shipment in the fourth quarter of 2008, the market was affected by increased unemployment and more conservative spending in the retail market. Meanwhile, on the supply side, the following factors impacted shipping desktop PCs: first Instead, due to the tightening of credit, some small and medium-sized distributors do not have enough capital to maintain operations. Second, some vendors aggressive brand name out checks of inventory levels starting in November and began aa clear inventories that are considered too high. Thirdly, the DTR (Desktop Replacement) acceleration effect, brand name vendors adjusted resource allocation and product strategies. Total due to the tension of the credit markets and conservative position marks in terms of delivering the orders, the volume of Taiwanese desktop PC shipment experienced a decrease in double digit in the fourth quarter of 2008.
The company's market had a relatively stable transfer performance in the second half of 2008 as it was less affected by economic recession and the effect the DTR consumer market. For shipping destinations of Taiwan's industry, although the European and U.S. markets are the heart of the financial crisis, its share in the total shipment did not decrease as expected.
