Is it possible to add a lace up/corset back to a wedding dress that currently has a zippered back?
I’ve always loved the look of a corset back and after trying on about 40 wedding dresses, the one I fell in love with has a zippered back with beading/lace appliques along it. I really really love this dress and I”d be happy with it “as is” but if it’s not too much hassle I would really love to add a lace up back to provide a bit more oomph. Has anyone ever done something similiar? Does the zipper need to be removed completely or could it still be used to close the back of the dress with the lace up part being mostly for decoration?
Yes, but you’ll definitely have to take it to a seamstress for alteration, preferably one that has a lot of experience with the delicate fabrics and appliqués of wedding gowns.
The zipper will need to be shortened so that it doesn’t cause an obstruction to the laceup area. They will probably also remove or move some of the appliqués from around the zipper area and cut it into the shape of a V in order to accommodate the corset lacing.
