RIT sye will stain the plastic tub in the washer, right? Any way to remove it if we do it this way?
I have 7 1/2 yards of 100% cotton fabric to dye- everything is set, but my husband doesn’t want the inside of the washer stained, esp. since we may be selling the house in a couple of years.
Anyone know how else to do such a large fabric (54″ by 60″ each panel?)
Or how to remove stain from washer after?
You might be able to do the project and then run a load of rags with lots of bleach. This would remove at least some of the staining but possibly not all.
The best and safest way to go would be to do the project in a plastic 5 gal. bucket. If you go this route be sure to wear old clothes and wear household rubber gloves with a nice long cuff to protect your hands and arms from the coloring process and the heat. I would also use some vinegar to set the dye with the same setup in case the fabric might eventually be in the washer.
That amount of fabric might require either two buckets or two batches. I would avoid cycling the cloth through the dye because the last piece through might not get the same amount of coloring.
